Ephemeral by ~Undefined-skeleton
I take my mission to edjumacate through this pulpit very seriously so let me explain this much abused word. Ephemeral comes from the greek (and I am deeply suspicious of things that come from greeks, especially gifts) word meaning, quite literally "for a day".
Got it people? Not fleeting, not lasting a few months, not "short lived" but like the fruit fly, one day.
I gave the artist here the benefit of the doubt, perhaps she was inspired by an intensely passionate one night stand, we have all known situations where the very act of consummation withered the most promising of pleasures. However, back to ephemeral pleasures, lovely as they are and their opposite, eternal Ps, which are above my petty mortal, tied down to the flesh mostly, ability to conceive and comprehend.
What kind of pleasure can you stretch out over more than one day? A good book? A tune that gets stuck in your head? I would argue that the pleasure factor remains ephemeral or you risk a skull shattering migraine. A good vacation. That's the only thing I can think of that is a constant. Ephemeral pleasure in perpetual motion if you will, albeit in three to five day stretches at a time (six weeks for some lucky bastards, go ahead and hate).
So, having come to that conclusion, and having read somewhere that "a vacation is a state of mind and not a destination", (yes it was a chicken-solely type book if you must know), and being of the brave sort that doesn't shrink from a good challenge, I propose to try out the ultimate in the ephemeral pleasure experience, the permanent vacation; a continuously chilled out state of mind, summer style. Watch this space.
