War for peace—I have read this oxymoronic statement for too long and can’t trust that the educated people of the world can actually believe that it is possible. The last decade has seen so much bloodshed and carnage for the sake of peace—while at war. There is no reason in the world that can justify this. Families lose their fathers, brothers, sons, and husbands (and now mothers, wives, and daughters), and countries lose their youth. Nothing in the world can replace that.
Terrorism has been an issue on this planet for some time now and I think the reasons stem from deep within us. Intolerance, disrespect for others’ beliefs and the superiority complex are all issues that help give birth to terrorism—not plain religious beliefs. Do you really believe any religion would truly support killing and fear? People judge and misjudge, interpret and misinterpret in their own ways, and try and push those misguided understandings onto other people—that is terrorism!
For a person who is dead—he is gone. What he leaves behind, however, is the pain, sorrow, and emptiness in the hearts of his friends and family. No amount of money, respect, or support can fill that void. Is that really how we want to bring about peace? By a raging war inside our own hearts and minds?

Gore Vidal's "Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace" addresses this issue well, as does your post and this emotional, telling painting.
