In the film Phone Booth, an arrogant man is contemplating cheating on his wife. He goes into a phone booth to call his mistress but instead receives a call from a man who is armed with a sniper rifle and watching him. He orders him to tell the truth to both women involved, and warns him that he’ll kill him if he attempts to leave.
This particular scene always reduces me to tears as it shows what everyone is capable of under extreme circumstances. Admittedly, the man is at gunpoint, but the brilliant acting makes you feel like he’s truly sorry for his behaviour, even though he’s been painted as a horrible person.
I sometimes know that I’m guilty of getting stuck in a rut; of not taking the time to appreciate what I have and those around me. It’s a difficult habit to break when you get into a routine, which is why I love how cinema is so powerful – it can make you take a step back from reality and see things with a clearer mind.
